A Solution For Our Front Door.

What would you do? We just moved into a pretty Stone Tudor Cottage house (two story) in Pittsburgh, PA. The Front Door has a small window. While standing outside at the front door; one can view the upstairs bathroom. We want to protect our privacy. We've thought about purchasing a stain glass panel and hanging it inside the door against the window. We don't want to replace the window. The window is 6 1/4 inches wide by 12 3/4 inches long. It is clear glass with lead sections. Done quite nicely. We think the stain glass might add a nice touch and still allow us to view a vistor outside of our door.
Help!

AnswerHi,
That is a bit of a dilemma. Hanging a stained glass panel over the leaded glass panel is going to spoil the effects of both pieces. The lead lines of the original piece will show through the new panel, and vice versa, which would give the appearance of additional lead lines in eash one. Furthermore, just hanging a panel, would cause problems, as the panel would swing ever time the door was opened or closed with a good possibility of the glass breaking.
The best solution I can think of would be to have a piece of glue chip glass, or any other textured glass that you like, cut to size and have it installed inside, over the original leaded glass panel.
Here is what glue chip glass looks like, and
Here is a place to look at other textures. Most of the textures, including glue chip, come in colors, as well as clear.
Perhaps someone else reading this will come up with some ideas.
