Antique Brass Patina

by Joe Johnson
(Fremont IN USA)

I cannot locate this patina...is this a copper patina that is applied differently? I am using on solder.

Secondly, what procedure do you use on lead?

Thank you.

Answer

The antique brass patina is made by Classique. Do a Google search for it. I found several places that sell it. It goes on the same way copper patina is applied.

As for lead, I have never found a chemical patina that works well. Some don't work at all, others come out very blotchy. I must admit that it has been several years since I've looked at chemical patinas for lead. I darken all of my lead with a natural bristle brush. Perhaps someone reading this has had good experience with a copper or brass chemical for lead and would tell us what they use and the technique they use.

I only have two kinds of patina - copper and black. I have found that if I take a very small amount of copper patina and mix it with black patina the result when applied to the solder lines is a lovely antique brass shade.
