Are copper foiled projects suitable for display in the garden?

I have made several types of small light catchers with copper foil and solder, which I have only used inside the house. Numerous friends would like me to make some for them with the purpose of displaying those in their gardens. I am not sure, whether copper foiled items are suitable for constant exposure in the garden - do you have any advice? I am concerned that the foil would peel off after too much exposure to rain as well as making the silver solder unsightly due to tarnishing. Is there any possiblity of protecting the copper foil/solder or is the use of a lead cane the only solution? Many thanks in advance.
AnswerCopper foil is very suitable for the garden. Since a solder bead is formed over the foil, the only way to get the foil loose is to melt the solder first...so, no the foil won't peel off, but do make sure you have formed a well rounded solder bead. If any of the edge pieces are look like they could easily break off, solder a wire around the entire edge to prevent them from breaking off in extreme weather. If you use copper patina on the solder, it will age and get a beautiful old look to it. Whether you use patina or not, make sure you wax the finished piece well.
