Birdhouse Gourd

by Antoinette
(USA)

My name is Antoinette and I started a beginners stained glass class 5 months ago and last month, the gourd that I grew last year was completely dry, but it had rotted and caved in, so I used the crevice to make a window. My next step is to use black patina on this window.

It is done in foil and I drew the design based on the hole that caved in. I'm hoping to learn how to do lead came work and create some windows for my house.

Very Creative NEW

Is there a way to insert a candelabra sized light fixture inside behind the glass,so the colors show up? Its a great piece, and I am certain I have never seen a gourd used in such a manner. Hope it holds up, how did you get the pieces to afix to the gourd?

This is a very original idea. You start out small and keep learning. I took a beginners course 3 years ago and have since made stained glass windows and door inserts for our new home. It is so rewarding to be able to stand back and see the whole picture. Thanks to a tutorial site like Sue's you will be able to get all the help you need to become an expert.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
