Birdie is perched!

by Randi Jean Veiberg
(Raleigh NC)

Hung the peacock this past weekend at its new home... On to the next grind!

The peacock has over 350 pieces of glass and is glued/soldered to a backing window. I polished all the glass and solder lines with a cleaning wax (- sadly the zinc frame is now cloudy). I had the glass for the backing window professionally cut. Toyed a long time around shipping (over $500) but luckily the client had a friend on the east coast driving back and he agreed to swing by and pick it up. I semi-mounted it on a sheet of roofing plywood with wood cleats and off it went!

close up, pattern, etc... NEW
by: rj v

Hi all!

Thanks for such nice comment! This link is to a closer-up image before the bird was completed...http://www.margin-notes.com/uploaded_images/onthewall-copy-765931.jpg

There is no real pattern, per say, as I developed it using a drawing program from a sketch.

They buyer decided they didn't want it on the copper trellis I designed for it, so i built a simple zinc framed, eight panel window for it and mounted it (using e6000 and soldering) to that. I also used 'brass' coat hanger to support the areas where the bird did not 'sit' on a solder line in the window. I used a cable in the frame to create a 'swing' and hung it to the owner's window casing from there.

more details can be found at www.stainedglasstownsquare.com forum under Installation Station - "the Bird is about to fly..."

Beautiful NEW
by: Lisa Seger

I love Peacocks and this one is just awesome. Did you create your own pattern or use an existing pattern? I would love to see a close up pic and maybe have more info on the type of glue you used to afix your pieces that aren;t soldered, if you don't mind sharing. I am always looking for ways to expand my own art medium, and though I have done some small glued pieces, nothing on such a grand scale.
Keep up the beautiful and talented work!
L

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
