Copper foil around edge of seashell

by se bowen
(brooklin, ME)

I want to wrap a piece of copper foil around the edge of a seashell, and then patina it. Can I do this without soldering it? I want to keep the copper showing.

Answer

Since the foil is already copper, why do you want to patina it??

The answer to your question is no, it won't work. Copper patina works by the chemical reaction between the tin in the lead and the copper sulfate in the patina.

You can solder the copper foil around the seashell and then patina it. Shells are very strong!! I have done it many times to include in pieces. GB

Im not sure if I made my question clear:
I want to put a verde gris patina on the copper foil.
I don't want to cover up the copper foil with soldering all over it as is done in stained glass.
I've never done any stained glass so my question may appear naive!!!
