copper foiling

I did a craft that when we put the copper foil on and then ran a solder iron over it after we put flux on it, it turned silver. We did not use solder just layed the iron on it. I tried it when I got home and the copper foil did not turn silver. Do I have to use a special copper foil, Do I have to use a high watt iron? Can you give me any help?
AnswerI've never seen or heard of copper foil that turned silver without using solder. The only thing I can think of is that the soldering iron tip had enough solder on it (from previous use) that it tinned the foil when it was pulled across it.
Tinning means putting a light coating of solder on the foil, causing it to turn silver, but not adding any strength.
You asked about the wattage of the iron. You would have to use at least a 60 watt iron...80 watts would be better. But again, the tip would have to have some solder on it. It won't turn the foil silver without solder (and flux).
