Cutting Out a Pattern

Hi Sue

I'm having trouble cutting out my paper patterns. I have foil shears and I cut inside my pattern. When I lay what I cut on the pattern I have a space for my foil but then when I cut my glass the peices turn out too small and I don't know why
Thanks,
Gail

Answer

Hi Gail,

You need the line, around the pattern piece, centered on your pattern shears. You are taking off almost double the amount that you really need to remove when you cut on the inside of the line.

I personally never had much luck with pattern shears. I go over the line with a medium ball point pen, then cut on either side of the line with regular scissors. I know it takes more time, but the pattern pieces are accurate.

I agree with you, I also use regular scissors, it is much easier to grind a little here and there than to have your pieces too small.
