Dark Red /Burgundy Glass Needed

by Ann
(Hoover, AL)

I have searched the internet and art glass catalogs for dark red glass - plain or patterned but not streaky or wispy. What I've ordered that looks dark on the screen is too bright. I think what I want is almost a burgundy. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Answer

Hi Ann,

I just looked thorugh my red glass supply and found one that is quite burgundy. It is streaky, but has large areas that are just burgundy. Unfortunately, I don't have a color code on it. I do know it's made by Youghiogheny. I did a search on their web site and saw one that is quite similar to mine. However, the sample looks more red than burgundy.

If no one else comes up with a suggestion, I would recommend calling a supplier and ask them if they have anything similar to what you need. I have done that several times and got exactly what I wanted. I have found both Delphi and Glasscrafters to be exceptionally helpful.

Also, if you find the color you want in a streaky sheet, ask them if they have a sheet that has large areas of burgundy in it. Most of the hand rolled glass will differ greatly from sheet to sheet and you can, quite often, find those large areas of a solid color. By hand rolled, I'm talking about manufacturers like Bullseye, Uroboros, and Youghiogheny.

I hope you have success. I know how difficult it can be to order glass sight unseen.
