Eagle Bevel Custer--how would you??

by Kaye
(IA)

I have 2 different clear eagle bevel clusters. My question is...when looking at the eagles they are both flying the same way. If you were doing a stained glass piece, would you have them flying the same way or would you turn one of them backwards and have it come from the other way? I would appreciated any input!! Thanks

Answer

Hi Kaye,

I would not turn the bevels around. It would look funny to have the bevel side out on one eagle and in (backwards) on the other eagle.

However, you can position them at different angles. Have one flying upwards and the other straight ahead or slightly downwards.

Lay them out on a piece of paper and move them around until you find a layout that looks good to you. Then trace around them and draw your pattern from there.

I once attended a workshop where we were given bevel clusters and were told to make something out of them, using the individual pieces any way we wanted. It was amazing what everyone came up with. Everyone had the same 10 piece bevel cluster, and no two designs were anything alike.

I'm telling you this so you realize that bevel clusters don't have to be used exactly as they are shown in the picture.

Have fun with them. Get creative, and submit a picture to the picture gallery page when you are done. I'd love to see what you end up doing with those eagles.

Sue

Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
