First attempt at Stained Glass

by Charmayne
(Wisconsin)

This was my first attempt creating something with stained glass. I signed up for stained glass classes, but the class was never held, so I am self taught.

I enjoyed it so much that I have made a few other pieces (sun-catchers) for family members. I have yet to accomplish a panel.

I call this “The Sun & The Moon”, it took me a few weeks to complete (small children that's all I have to say). I used the foil method and finished it with copper patina.

Thank you! Lori Ann, for the outside edge I use a brass ring like you would use in knitting or crocheting. I fluxed it, then soldiered over it. That is why it looks heavy. From one beginner to another, I would love to see something you have done. Thanks

Thank you very much. but, to answer your question Lori Ann, I used a brass ring like you would use in knitting or crocheting. I picked it up from Hobby Lobby's, they have all kinds of sizes. I just tin soldiered right over it (fluxing it first).

I think you moon and sun glass piece is really very nice. I am also a beginner. I LOVE IT!!!! So, how is it that you got such a 'heavy' bead on the outside edge? Thanx... Lori Ann

I think it looks great. All that is needed to succeed is the desire and will power to do something and off you go. Keep going and in no time at all you will make your panels and bigger pieces.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
