Have You Used No Daze Glaze?

by Ann
(Hoover, AL)

What can you tell me about the new product that is an alternative to puttying leaded glass? The product is named "No Daze Glaze" and looks like a rubber-like strip that fits into the lead channel before you set the glass. An application from a "heat gun" completes the process. It is advertised as stronger than putty and weatherproof. I'd like to hear from someone who has used it and what they have to say about it.

Answer

Hi Ann,

We have not used No Daze Glaze. I just went to their web site to read about it. I can not find anything about the ingredients, so I have no idea what it's made of. It goes on to say it can be reheated, at any time, to remove or reposition the glass. That makes me wonder about a panel that gets extremely hot from the sun...hmm. I also wonder how it will have held up in a window 50 years from now. Will it have crumbled or deteriorated?

Anyway, I hope other readers can tell us about their experience using it.

No Daze Glaze NEW
by: Kathi

I don't like it at all. It is hard to remove from the glass and if you use patina, it won't cover where the glaze is. It is just as easy to cement (putty) the entire piece.

My NoDazeGlaze experience NEW
by: keith Robinson

Hello,
I have built a test panel just to try out No Days Glazing strip. It looked like the answer to getting rid of the putty cement mess that I dislike. I bought several reels of the stuff and did some research on the product. It is an extremely hi tech material normally used to seal aircraft windows in place. I found that because you must change your constuction methods to accomodate inserting the NDG strip into the came first, it got very unwieldy. I tried several ways of using it and have now abandoned it. If you were making a very uniform panel all rectangles etc then its possible to use it, otherwise its just too much effort. The idea is good and the technology excellent but I couldnt use it without getting stressed out. when soldering it tends to un-melt and add to that aspect of construction. I could see large scale manufacurers using it but I found it detracted from the pleasure of building a stained glass panel in the time-honoured fashion.

No Days Glaze NEW
by: Marj Pitzer

I used the NDG mosaic mount and do not recommend it. The heat gun moved my glass pieces around and I had to stop and re-adjust my pieces all the time. When I was finshed with the heat gun, most of my glass peices were loose. I had to start all over again with glue. It was a huge waste of time and money.

A Friend Had Trouble NEW
by: Brooks

A friend had trouble with No Daze because her pieces would not stay in place. She was unhappy with customer support. Perhaps the owner of No Daze could be invited to make remarks concerning his product in this venue.

I am very cautious about trying this product.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
