How To Draw a Pattern

by Lee
(Laguna Woods, CA, USA)

I am a beginner in stained glass class, having attended for only 6 months. The teacher asked us to create a pattern for a stained glass house with 4 rooms! Having no expertise in drawing, I can only visualize outside walls in clear, inside walls, floor and roof in colors, door and windows in colors. But how to I create the pattern for this "monster" of a project?

Answer

Hi Lee,

Before I can give you some help I need to know if this is a 3 dimensional piece or is it a flat panel??

You can give me an answer either by asking the question again (the same way you asked this question), or you can send me an email here.

Drawing a Pattern NEW
by: Maggie

I'm wondering how the answer turned out. I would like to know how to make a pattern for a panel. I have half-round windows and have the size cut. Now to create a pattern.
Then, I'm wondering about the best way to securely attach the completed panel to the window.
I have spent some time going through your patterns, links, and questions and find much valuable information. Thank you very much.

Unfortunately the person never got back to me, so the question was never answered.

You can find information about patterns for Copper Foil and Lead on this web site as well as a tutorial for Designing

I would need to know where (existing window, outside window, inside window, etc) you will be installing the panels in order to tell you how to do it.

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
