How to start doing stained-glass

by Laura Brooks
(Belcamp MD)

I have always wanted to try my hand at doing stained-glass. But the class is very expensive, so I did not try. My friend who has passed away has left me with a kit for making stained-glass. I have everything I need to start but, I don't know how to start. I was wondering is there DvD for starters that is very basic from the beginning.

Answer

Hi Laura,

I'm sure there are DVDs available, but I'm not familiar with them.

If you follow my tutorials found here you should be able to work your way through the techniques.

Practice cutting glass, over and over, until you can do it effortlessly. You will find a tutorial for each type of glass cutter, so find the one for your particular cutter.

Once you can cut glass, find an easy pattern here. Follow the tutorial for Pattern Pieces to prepare your pattern for cutting.

Work your way through the tutorials until you have a finished piece.

You can also do a Google search for "stained glass instructional dvds".

I do plan on producing a DVD for beginners, but that is probably 6 months away.

If you have questions or problems, you can always come here to ask, or send me a private email by clicking on Contact Me on each of my web pages.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
