Is there a section on putting glass on mirrors?

by Anna
(Goodlettsville, Tn)

Do you have a section on putting glass on mirrors? What materials do you use for bonding to the mirror and as "grout"?

I haven't seen anything on this and am intrigued by the question that was asked about putting the pattern on the mirror.

Answer

Hi Anna,

I'm not sure what the person is trying to achieve. I have just asked her to let me know what she is doing, then I can give her some directions.

To answer your question, no...I don't have a section on putting glass on mirror. You could glue it on, or copper foil the glass and the mirror and solder it in place. As for grout, I honestly don't have an answer until I know what she is trying to achieve.

I do have a page with mirror designs, with a section on working with mirror. You can find it Here.

Glass on Mirror NEW
by: Amie

I have surrounded a mirror with glass and found that rather than placing the stained glass right on the mirror, I glue the mirror to the middle of a piece of wood, which will be your base. Leave as much space around the mirror that you want to mosaic with glass. Leave 1/8" between each piece of glass and then grout.

I have had these pieces framed. This is an alternate way to get some great results.

I will post a mirror on my page.

Glue on Mirrors NEW

E6000 glue is excellent for gluing stained glass to mirrors. Use unsanded grout. A big consideration are the edges that will be exposed - you must grind them smooth and/or create some barrier (also helpful to hold the grout). You can contact us at www.glassNgarden.com although right now there are not pictures of our mirrors there.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
