I've just started using stained glass to make mosaics. I haven't used foil or lead yet.I am going on a course very soon. However, for the moment,I buy the frames with the mirror in centre and use left over scraps to cover the mirror and use black grout. I think they look very effective. I've done quite a few other mosaics using stained glass. I really love the effect!

Great Idea!
by: Shrubcat Leadlighting

Hi Anne,

that's a very effective and original idea. Over the years you do see interesting mirror frames and think 'yeah nice frame, but don't need another mirror...' With the mirror as a base, you can either use an abstract pattern, or a pattern that enhances the period/style of the frame. No need for a lead border, tacking, etc. Looks great too! Some of the second hand frames around would be great too for period pieces.
