Making a Picture Frame

by Bev Bunniss
(South Yorkshire, England)

how do I actually construct the frame to hold the picture? I know what I want the stained glass front to look like but cannot figure out how to affix the glass and fixings to hang it . Help!

Bev Bunniss

Answer
Hi Bev,

I hate to admit this, but I have never made a picture frame. I do know there are easel backs available for them and something about zinc came on three sides of the back of the frame to slide the easel back into. Hopefully someone reading this can give both of us the answer.

If anyone cares to help Bev (and me), you can give us directions in the comments section below.

I used 3 pieces of u channel lead .soldered it around the inside of your frame leaving the top open to slide in pic. then solder 2 rings of wire and hang it like you would any panel.

Back of Frame NEW

I always solder paper clips on the back of the frame. I either use a regular frame back or cardboard to hold the picture in. I've found paper clips come in real handy.

Frame NEW
by: Ron Ruffner

I use 1/2 in zinc for all my frames even the ones that I later set in wood. If sue will tell me how, I could send a couple of pictures on how I hang them.

Ron...She's referring to an actual picture frame, with a photograph in it, that stands on a table. I think you're talking about framing a panel.

If I'm wrong, send me an email with the photographs at Contact Me and I'll get them on here.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
