Marks on Glass Around Solder Seam

by Kewl Glass
(New Hampshire)

Just found you. Very cool site. Thanks. My problem is after I have finished and cleaned and polished there are marks around every soilder seam.I take a blunt pencil or other sharp abject and try to clean the seams but there is still a visible blurry yuk. Am I melting the glue? After sometime the glass is almost etched. I rewash rewax and it stays. I also get alot of white powder yuk. Is my water bad? Do I use to much Flux? Peggy Kewl Glass

Answer

Hi Peggy,

At this point I can't come up with a reason why it's happening. I need to see it, so if possible, would you please start another page, asking your question, and attach a picture. It would be much easier to figure out what's going on if I could see the problem. Perhaps a picture before you clean the seams. Thanks.

Clean Off Residual Flux Everytime NEW
by: Brooks

I have friends who clean off residual flux when they finish each session of soldering. I try doing the same. I keep a small spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. I use the alcohol after grinding, before applying foil. I also used the alcohol To cleam residual flux.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
