Neglected Patina Zinc Table Top

I dug a zinc table top with speckled patina out of my mothers garage. It's dull with white "dust" and some rusty? spots. Will buffing and waxing retore it to suitable dining room use or will I need to sand it down (does that remove the patina?) and re-patina it?
AnswerI'm not an expert on zinc tables, only zinc came used in stained glass work. However, if it was came, I'd use steel or bronze wool to clean it up.
I don't know if there is really patina on it or if it's a natural patina the comes with age. The steel or bronze wool will remove whatever is on it and you will end up with (hopefully) a bright shiny table top.
There is a black patina for zinc, but I honestly don't know the results you'd get with it. You might be best off to leave it it's natural color. If it is a natural patina, it will, over time, return to the color you want.
