Pattern Pieces

by Len Martin
(Beverly Hills, Florida)

I use both mylar and/or shelving contact paper for my pattern pieces. Contact paper has a thin plastic side and the paper side does not dissolve when grinding. Also glue stick does not work well on bumpy glass, I use rubber cement. A little messy but it works.

patterning NEW
by: hubert

after so many years of doing glass I have settled on mylar. It can be painted around the edge with a contrasting color magic marker. put the vaseline on with a brush, either glass first or mylar first. roll it tight with a seam roller. to help keep the pattern from being pushed around with my fingers I made my own push tools treblefrom plastic with a round drawer pull for a handle.

Holding pattern pieces... NEW
by: Campbell, SoCal, USA

I find double sided tape works well.

When finished I can stick used pattern pieces on parchment paper and store with the pattern, if it is one I will reuse.

In case you are wondering, parchment is used in cooking and baking. It can be found near the aluminum foil in grocery stores.

Great Idea NEW
by: Anna Bell

Len,

I love the idea of using contact paper. I always have trouble with the pattern coming off while I grind. I've going to try the contact paper tomorrow. Thanks!

Anna

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
