Thank you again.
Here are separate replies to each questionQ.My relatives live in Paris, Detroit and Malaysia. Kindly mail me where can I get this lead stretcher in these places so they may buy me.
Answer The lead stretcher can be obtained from any shop that sells stained glass supplies. Have your relatives look in the Yellow Pages of the phone book, under "Stained Glass Supplies", for a shop in their area.
Q.Should only kiln fired glass be used for stain glass windows.
Answer I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say kiln fired glass. There are basically two areas of glass work...cold glass and hot glass.
Cold glass refers to the techniques used in copper foil and lead work. This would include stained glass windows and lampshades, boxes, suncatchers, and anything else that does not need the use of a kiln.
Hot glass is the term used for fusing and slumping, making beads, and any other technique where you would use a kiln or a torch.
If you are referring to either term, you start out using glass that has been manufactured for the stained glass industry. Here are several manufacturers that make the glass you would use:
Spectrum Glass Wissmach Glass Youghiogheny GlassThis is, by far, not a complete list of glass manufacturers, but it will give you an idea of the glass you would use.
Q.And why have you sold your business.
AnswerWe sold our business because we needed to move back to the USA to live closer to our aging parents. Also, we were getting older and were ready to retire from a full time business. We now have a studio in our home and continue to work with glass, mainly doing repairs and restoration work.
Q.If I wanted to learn kiln fired glass where can I learn it in Malasia or Paris?
Answer If you want to learn the hot glass techniques you need to look for a studio that does work in hot glass and offers classes for beginner students. If you want to learn basic stained glass techniques, look for a stained glass shop or studio that offers classes.
