removing cracked piece of glass

If you notice that a piece of glass has cracked after being soldered,I used a spring loaded center punch to break the broken glass into small pieces. It then can be removed from the surrounding glass and the foil can be removed
with ease as it falls away from the other foiled pieces. This works with came also. Spring loaded center punch can be purchased at most hardware stores.

removing soldered foil NEW
by: Libby

This is actually a question: I read in this posted comment about how easily foil can be removed after a cracked piece of glass is removed. Yesterday I tried to remove a piece of glass out of a piece and I could not get the foil to melt out... the adjacent or adjoining foil from a good piece came off with the foil from the removed piece! I ended up pulling the soldered foil off of the whole piece and starting over again, re-foiling and re-soldering the whole thing. Can you explain in detail how to remove the foil without disturbing the foil it is soldered to?

Answer

Here is where you can find Step by Step Instructions on repairing a copper foiled project. You will see how to get the foil off without damaging any adjacent foil.

What People
Are Saying

You can't imagine how much I wish I had found your incredible website before I spent many hundreds of dollars on lessons, dvd's, tutorials, etc. I can tell that everything I need to know can be found here. All I can say is "Thank You!" Larry

I can't thank you enough for this site. The new search feature is amazing and it makes it so easy to find exactly what I am looking for. Thank you again! Laurie

Your site is fantastic! I took a six week class four years ago and recently started again (after forgetting almost everything I learned!). I have to say that your site is excellent and I can't wait to practice the techniques you've shown. Scarlet

I'm a subscriber to your "Stained Glass Gems" and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful site! This is by far the best glass site I've run across. I recently purchased your publication on Patina FAQ and it's very helpful for me... I like to have hard copies of info so I added it to my library. Suzanna
