Replacement Tips For Running Pliers

by Ann
(Hoover, AL)

I ordered replacement tips for my metal running pliers. When they arrived they looked way too small. The company I ordered from told me they only come in one size and I should soak them in hot water to soften the tips. That doesn't seem to make them any softer or better able to fit. The tips are Inland brand. Do you know if it is true that the tips come only in one size and if so do you have any suggestions on how to soften them enough to make them fit?

Answer
Hi Ann,

I did a quick search for replacement tips and found that there are 3 sizes.

Here is what I found:

Sunshine Glassworks has these:
REPLACEMENT RUBBER TIPS FOR 7/8" RUNNING PLIERS (#3889-TIP) slip on the jaw of metal running pliers when the originals split and fall off. For jaws that are 7/8" wide. Just 99 cents!

REPLACEMENT RUBBER TIPS FOR 3/4" RUNNING PLIERS (#3884-TIP) slip on the jaw of metal running pliers when the originals split and fall off. For jaws that are 3/4" wide. Just 99 cents!

Global Stained Glass has these:
Replacement Tips - 1" Running Pliers DT600T $3.49

Apparently, the ones you have are the wrong size and they will never stretch to fit your pliers.

I hope this helps you.

Replacement tips for running pliers
by: Ann

Thank you Sue! I am going to show your response to my glass provider. I may even change glass providers as I had bought the running pliers from them and they're stocking replacement tips that don't fit what they sell! They should know better.
