Stained Glass Box Hinges
by Sheryl Davis

I am a beginner and I don't understand how you make the hinges for the boxes. I have read about the tubes-but what are they? Hollow so a wire can fit throught them, but what do you use?
Please help Christmas projects in motion.
I love your web site. Way to go.
Sincerely,
Sheryl
AnswerHi Sheryl,
The tube is copper. There is a copper rod that slides in the tube. Both pieces can be obtained from most stained glass suppliers.
The tube is cut and soldered to the back of the lid. The rod is cut in half and both pieces are bent to an L shape. One end of the rod is slide into the end of the tube and the other end is soldered to the side of the box.
That was an extremely basic description of how it's done. I will be writing a box making tutorial shortly after Christmas, but I know it won't do you much good now.
Someone else asked the same question a few weeks ago.
