Project falling apart
by: Lynn, San Diego

OK, I'm using chandelier crystals and wrapping in copper, I burnish very well, no lifts, solder, clean, etc. In no time at all the project starts to fall apart. It comes apart from the foil touching the glass. I have tried hundreds of times to make it stick and it doesn't. I have also tried to reinforce with the heavy copper but it is so hard to work around the edges and I really don't know how to use it very well because it is so stiff. After I make my design I usually solder to an old bottle or wine decanter, etc. They look great but they are not sturdy. I have spent so much time and money on supplies and I am still having problems. Do you have any ideas why they won't hold together. I give the joints plenty of solder but I now know that it is the copper foil. I have bought new several times and in different backing, silver, black and copper.; I really need some help. Thanks so much.

Foiling Textured Glass
by: Colin Burdett

Your comments are spot on, may I add I use a hair dryer to warm the glass before foiling and it sticks like you would not believe, every time, all of the time.

Thank You For a good Question
by: Sue

Hi Donna,

Foiling rough textures is something that causes lots of problems. By asking that question, I'm sure many people will benefit from it. Thanks for asking it.

Sue
